Arrow Systems Sdn. Bhd. is a company with over 26 years of experience, specializing in food industry machinery processes. Over the years, the company has earned goodwill and recognition from clients for its quality machinerie, value added technical support and efficient after-sales service.
Challenge 1
Barely have time to monitor the machine’s performance and status.
Despite being in this field for so many years, they will occasionally face criticisms from their clients once in a while. Clients commonly complain that the machine they purchased does not live up to their expectations as promised. For example, clients will always demand for reliability and whether it will assist them enhance their production output.
Not only will they want to know if there is a lot of manpower engagement involved, that is if they can merely get the job done with bare minimum of human labor, but also expect the machines to last. But this problem could be determined by a few factors that require offline checking to figure it out. Therefore, what can be done to overcome this problem?
Challenge 2
Failed to plan advanced schedule, resulting in requiring more manpowers and machine parts delay.
Before implementing this system, what they normally do is that they will only schedule a date with the customers when their machine is down. For this reason, many issues are affected. Such as, more manpower and time were required to go for site visits and to do inspections. Since the whole process of inspection would take up to an estimated 1 month, it is troublesome because it is very time consuming and will even affect the factory’s production process for having such a long downtime.
The estimated time is longer due to the unpredictable circumstances where they could not make advanced arrangements or purchase certain parts that are in need. Hence, all of these occurrences may contribute to a longer period of time needed to just get one job done.
Solution 1
Develop a system to monitor each of their machine’s OEE and status.
The company has always prided itself on its commitment to customer satisfaction, it is essential for them to provide assurance to their customers. Thus, the manufacturer must justify their actions by proving to the clients with strong evidence or results that the machine works well as promised. The accurate results could be obtained from the OEE and it comes in handy in proving their words. In that case, clients will no longer be able to bicker or accuse irrelevantly.
Solution 2
Notify customers in advance when each of the machines need maintenance, and it should be done when the machine’s OEE or performance is getting lower.
To prevent any downtime, this system can be implemented to capture each of the machine’s performance or health. The start date of the usage will be recorded and the company will be able to make predictions on the machine’s health. Prior to this, they can conduct the preventive analytics to predict the overall performance of each machine and analyze what is their average performing time to identify the risks.
Besides, anomaly detection is also commonly used as a sign to show when the equipment or machine needs maintenance. It is able to identify unexpected events in the data set, which tells when a different behavior occurs.
Finally, the user will be notified when it is almost time for the maintenance. Since they are now notified ahead of time, the company would be able to prepare all the things required and can immediately perform the maintenance once they are there. Therefore, it could reduce any unexpected equipment breakdowns and improve their productivity.
